Adriana Jamisse is an artist and healer from Mozambique. She is currently based in Maputo, but often works in Cape Town, South Africa. Her main interests are movement/mobility, self-discovery and connection using the body (and its subjectivity) as the point of departure. Adriana has a range of interests and skills that stem from Dance and Choreography to Yoga, Taiji Quan, Qigong and Massage therapy. Adriana trained in several dance and yoga styles in both Mozambique and South Africa. She holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences majoring in Dance, Drama and Social Anthropology from the University of Cape Town. And she is in continuous and lifelong study of Taiji Quan and Qigong.
Her investigation into movement and healing forms a huge part of her approach to art making and performance. She has staged two independent productions alongside Julia de Rosenwerth: Whisper (2017) and SPLIT SIGNS (2016), and has recently performed a full-length solo work called Derivations (2018). In 2018 Adriana has completed two artistic residencies: ANY BODY DANCE LAB in March-April 2018 and The Fogotten Angle Theatre Collaborative Artist in Residence in June 2018. She has also completed two courses at the Ecole des Sables in Senegal in 2017 and 2018.
With regards to teaching, Adriana has taught movement classes to Opera and Drama Students at the University of Cape Town. She is a qualified Yoga instructor through Jim Harrington, and a Tui Na Massage Therapist, Taiji Quan and Qigong practitioner under Shirfu/ Dr. Jeff Lan. Adriana has taught a couple of explorative movement workshops independently and recently as part of the ANY BODY ZINE ‘s I call you dance programme (2018).
